Role profile

Location: Johannesburg

The Commercial Finance Manager has ownership of the commercial and financial function, including commercial management, general financial management, and reporting.

Main Purpose of the Role

In this role, you will be required to utilise your knowledge and understanding of overall business, professional services, project accounting, financial management, and commerce to lead and manage the commercial and financial components of the business.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B. Com with honours and articles, B. Com Law, CA/SA or CIMA
  • Ideally in a Business or IT consulting related field

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 8 years working experience outside of articles
  • Worked within the consulting industry
  • Leadership of skilled delivery teams
  • Executive level stakeholder management
  • Financial Management within Professional Services (5 years)
  • Cost accounting (2 years)
  • Financial modelling and reporting (5 years)
  • Project accounting (2 years)
  • Commercial contracting support (5 years)

Strategic Leadership and Planning

  • Provide input into the commercial and financial maturity strategy, framework, and roadmap
  • Lead commercial and finance aspects of business and account planning
  • Provide financial modelling and insights from pipeline and project data
  • Guide pre-sales decisions to optimise financial outcomes
  • Oversee contractual processes to manage commercial and legal risk

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee the finance team’s daily operations and performance
  • Deliver accurate financial statements, management reports, and cash flow forecasts
  • Support board and business reporting with insightful financial analysis
  • Ensure robust financial controls and efficient treasury management
  • Drive continuous improvement of reporting, budgeting, and performance processes

Budgeting, Forecasting and Remuneration

  • Manage annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
  • Oversee biannual remuneration and bonus cycles, including committee reporting
  • Prepare and review remuneration offers and structures for new hires

Commercial and Risk Management

  • Manage the contract processes to mitigate legal and commercial risk
  • Maintain contract templates (MSAs, NDAs, etc) and ensure policy compliance
  • Review contracts for profitability and risk alignment
  • Build commercial models and perform financial risk assessments

Project and Portfolio Financial Performance

  • Lead financial processes across Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay
  • Design and implement project performance metrics and variance reporting
  • Create exception and variance reporting in collaboration with the Project Office and enhance project financial acumen across delivery teams

Governance, Compliance and Technical Accounting

    • Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax regulations, and audit processes
    • Manage BBBEE, insurance, and company secretarial duties
    • Promote use of financial systems for accurate reporting and compliance
  • Financial modelling: Advanced Excel skills
  • Commercial understanding: Advanced analysis and business acumen
  • Project Management: Intermediate project financial analysis
  • Organised: Advanced structured approach to coordination
  • Effective Planning and closing: Intermediate ability to plan and follow up
  • Problem Solver: Intermediate ability to critically review proposals
